Savings are an absence of energy use. As such, can only be determined through measurement and verification and the 'what would have been' meter.
iVEES utilises IPMVP, a protocol maintained by the Efficiency Valuation Organisation for determining energy savings as the methodology for determining savings. IPMVP lays out options for M&V according to the type of energy project planned and specifies the steps involved in good M&V. IPMVP is a protocol that essentially looks at what the energy consumption would have been without the retrofit measure, thereby determining what the savings are, whilst ensuring that like for like comparisons are made.
In delivering your M&V plan development and savings reporting services, iVEES will select the most appropriate methodology to use in accordance with the IPMVP and the energy savings measures being implemented. We will then develop a ‘baseline reporting’ period model, and following project implementation, this model will be tested over a suitable period of time called the ‘reporting period'. Adjustments will be made as necessary to determine what the actual savings are.
This can be represented as follows:
Savings reported = Baseline period energy – reporting period energy +/- adjustments
